Paul Murphy has climbed the greasy pole of corporate life and is enjoying the benefits of success, money, status and the company of a good-looking woman. In the words of his father, a retired public servant, he has become a Catser, lapping up the cream.

Despite his modest success, he is still searching for fulfilment and his critical nature and roving eye for the women are guaranteed to bring him grief. Demands from the chief executive of the corporation in the USA, for drastic cost cutting measures in the business is ruthlessly embarked upon and Murphy is up there with the best of them. As hundreds of jobs are axed he gets the plaudits but wakes up to the other side of corporate greed. The cynical waste he encounters at the headquarters, and the callous disregard for people depresses him.

The combination of a redundant manager committing suicide and his father being diagnosed with cancer lead him towards a catharsis and he is forced to re- examine his values and his own morality. He discovers a fraud at the highest level in the company and the scene is set for him to exact revenge on those he has come to despise. The pace is fast, and the script is racy and humorous. Murphy tells it how it really is.

Born and reared in Dublin, BRIAN CLARKE graduated in Industrial Engineering and business. He has worked for large corporations, national and international and lived in London and France. In more recent times he worked as a partner in a management consultancy firm in Dublin. This is his first novel and he has completed a book of short stories and a second novel. With three grown up children, he lives in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.
